Go out with a bang!
Section 1 - The Intial Letter
As this is my final year, my one goal is to go out with bang. This pertains to everything I hope to do this year. From volleyball to Link Crew to Leadership, my main goal is to put all my effort into everything I do. By doing this, I hope to not only get the best results possible, but also to make the best memories possible. Almost like an, “embrace the weird moments” idea. Starting at Core Camp I knew this class was going to be strong and I still feel like this to this day. Throughout various activities and requests there have, of course, been a few bumps in the road but ultimately I see potential in each and every one of these leaders. From the Seniors to the Freshmen I know everyone has the opportunity to do something great. All that is needed is the effort. Thus far, I’ve seen amazing effort. Everyone in this program wants to be here and wants to work toward better in not only the student body but also this class. Selfless leaders will results in a successful year. I cannot wait to see the countless ideas, opinions, and moments created within this class. However, personally, in my job description, I am slightly worried about letting the class down. I want to be the best possible version of myself not only for my own benefit but, more importantly for those who rely on me to do a good job. For as much as I hope to be a great role model, I’m more focused on being a real role model. Somebody who may not always get everything right but can solve problems quickly. Not the picture perfect ASB President, but someone who has personality and can admit failure. Not a demanding leader but rather someone who is understanding and supportive. This class needs someone who is real and can be honest and that’s what I hope to give this amazing class and I hope they feel comfortable doing the same for me. Life is not simple and easy but rather a journey of epic highs and epic lows, my goal is to live this journey through every drop and rise and live it with honesty.
Section 2 - Part I Quotes
“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” - Dalai Lama
This quote may seem simple and too easy, however this is one of the most important things to remember about life. At the end of the day nothing matters besides how you felt you lived your life. Did you live it with kindness and happiness in your life? Did you fill your life with hate and selfishness? This looks different to everyone. All that matters is if you were happy throughout your life. That’s my main focus throughout life, creating and spreading happiness because at the end of the day, that’s all we have!
“When you get tired, learn to rest, not quit.” - Bansky
I need to remember this quote more often. When I get tired and stop working on a project, I feel as if I'm quitting. I need to remember that I’m taking a break and resting, not quitting. More people need to hear this quote.
“Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want” - Ken Poirot
The only time we have in this life is now. Everyone talks about their dreams and hopes but very few actually work towards this dream. Many people are waiting for “the right time” or “the perfect moment” but the right time and perfect moment is now. The time will pass anyway, might as well start now
Section 3 - Quote Part II
“Life is very interesting. In the end, some of your greatest pains become your greatest strengths.”
This quote resonates with me because this class has been through hell and back. Whether that was self-inflicted is neither here nor there. Some of the things I struggled through the most the year taught me how to be a stronger and better leader. I learned how to handle unexpected emergencies, how to continue to lead through the class dropping from 40 leaders to 39 leaders, how to diffuse arguments, and how to step up and lead when Morty was gone. This year has been difficult but I couldn’t be more lucky to continue to lead with those around me today. I believe you must grow from your mistakes and failures in order to be successful in life. This has been a hard truth I had to learn because I absolutely hate failing. I will do anything in my power to prevent failure. However, when I do fail, I use it as a learning curve and try my best to move forward and do better.

However, when I do fail, I use it as a learning curve and try my best to move forward and do better.
Section 4 - Part I Goals
- My first leadership goal is to communicate as effectively as possible. Nothing works without communication and that holds especially true with leadership. I may not be perfect but as long as I can communicate and delegate to others then I will be happy with my job.
- My second leadership goal is to just enjoy the year. I’ve put hard work and stress into this program for the past 3 years and although I plan to continue putting in that same hard work and stress, I also hope to be able to sit back and enjoy the program every now and then. To cherish the weird moments and live in the present. I hope to spend a lot of time getting to know these people and really making connections before I’m gone.
- My first short term goal is to lower my stress levels over the next 6 months. I know this level of stress is unhealthy for me and by working to lower it I will be a much happier person. This means stop procrastinating, look to the future to plan ahead, and communicate as best as I can.
- My second short term goal is to start saving money for trips I hope to take when I graduate high school. I want to be able to do a few things with my family after I graduate including going on some nice family vacations that I haven’t been able to go on due to leadership, basketball, and volleyball.
- My first long term goal is to find what I love to do. I’m constantly changing my mind and I hope to be able to finally find something I absolutely love to do. To find my passion in life.
- My second long term goal is simply happiness. My main focus in life is to leave this world knowing I lived a happy life. Whatever that means I’m not sure yet, but I know I want to do something I love, something I’m passionate about. However, I do know I can create happiness by spreading kindness to others, helping others in need, and focusing on my own life.
Section 5 - Goals Part II
- YES YES YES! I’m proud of this goal/accomplishment. I feel I communicated extremely well whenever I had the opportunity. I communicated over docs, texts, emails, and calls. I almost over communicated the responsibilities and expectations to the class. I felt bad sending so many texts and docs but overall that’s how we were able to be successful this year.
- I would say I somewhat accomplished this goal. For as much fun as I had this year, it was also filled with stress, anger, and frustration. Bad things happen sometimes that make it hard to just sit back and enjoy the program even when all responsibilities are done. I did spend a lot of time with this class and I did enjoy myself this year in this class.
- My stress level certainly did not lower, if anything it rose. I put my mental and physical health on the back burner to make others happy. However, the past few weeks have been different. I’ve been more responsible and actually put work towards lowering my stress levels. These past few weeks have definitely been a huge change in my life and I’m excited to continue these healthy habits. I’m determined to lower my stress levels and just have fun these last few months of high school.
- Yes and no. I did save up almost $2,000 for this summer but I also quit my job and am taking an expensive EMT Course. However, I do have money put away for my trip to Reno, my trip to Mexico, and Core Camp this year. I’m excited for my trips and excited for a change up from my normal busy summer.
- I definitely think I’m making strides towards finding what I love to do. This is the main reason for me doing this EMT class and seeing if this is something I’m actually interested in. I’ve always wanted to work in the emergency response or medical field and this way I get to try a bit of both. This is a huge step for me and I’m super excited to start this.
- 2 months ago I would’ve said I absolutely failed this goal. I was at a low point in my life and barely had the motivation to get up in the morning. I was not happy at all. However, I’ve made significant changes in my life, cutting out caffeine, eating healthy, consistently working out, not procrastinating. These changes have all put me on the right track to be happy. Obviously, as I grow older I will have to change certain aspects of my life but my goal is to always make myself happy. There’s no reason to live life angry and upset at the world. I hope I continue this journey.

Makenzie Loechler owes her success as an FBI Agent to her High School years. Throughout her interview she mentioned how some of her most developing moments were within that crucial four years. She was involved with her Leadership Program at Ripon High School from 2019-2023 where she faced many challenges in working with people. However, these situations made her more observant and forced her to grow up and mature. Loechler states, “By taking a step back and watching people interact, I learned more about them than if I were to actually have a conversation with them.” Loechler explains that watching how people react to certain situations tells them everything you need to know about them. Loechler then took this approach and applied it to her career as an FBI Agent. This work has earned her the title of “Best FBI Agent the U.S. has even seen”, as critics claim.
Loechler also touches on conflict resolution skills, developing a calm mind, and pushing yourself to work harder than you think you can. She developed these skills through the tough courses she pushed herself to take and learning to remain calm during game deciding situations. She has been inspired by countless peoples throughout her years and owes her success to many. However, Makenzie states, “Success is only determined by yourself. Others may influence you, many people have, but the only way I was able to be where I am today is putting in the hard work myself.” Loechler still has a lot of work ahead of her but she has started off on the right foot

Section 8 - Role Model
Someone I admire is my mom. I’m pretty sure I use her every year but she is truly someone I admire. She has taught me strength, perseverance, and humility. She has shown me how to stand up for myself and be confident in who I am. I know this prompt says no repeats but I don’t think there is anyone as influential in my life as my mom. She is the reason I’m the person I am today. I owe all of my accomplishments and achievements to her. She has been with me through thick and thin and has never let me down. I’m proud of who she's become despite how much she has gone through. She is by far the strongest and most reliable person I know. She is patient and understanding even when the world throws the worst at her. On top of that, she always wants the best for Hailey and I and has raised us to be the strong women we are today. My mom really is an exceptional person who deserves everything good in the world.

Section 9 - Inner Animal
According to a test I took online that claims to be the most accurate animal test, I am a dolphin. Originally all I knew dolphins stood for was intelligence. I may be smart but I’m no April Yan and Spencer Redula, so I looked a little deeper into what dolphins embodied. This resulted in finding out that dolphins exhibit calmness and peacefulness. They represent someone who tries their best to avoid conflict and are highly friendly. I am not a dolphin. Taking a new route, I used the 16 personalities quiz and found a website that related it to animals. I got a commander, meaning I have the personality type ENTJ. This coincided with the cheetah, time for more research. Cheetahs are described as self-sufficient, determined, and insightful. They are hard-working and sometimes impatient. Cheetahs are described as responsive and quick thinking. I feel like this more closely represents my everyday life. I have many roles to play at the high school which force me to be quick thinking, determined, and hard working. Although I never really saw myself as a cheetah, I understand this perspective and agree with it. However, this also means that sometimes I need to slow down in my life and take things one step at a time. This is also extremely accurate

Section 11 - Song
“Going Through Hell” - Rodney Atkins
Well you know those times when you feel like
There's a sign there on your back
That says I don't mind if you kick me, seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You think it can't get worse than that
And then they do
You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Used the needle of your compass, to sew up your broken heart
Ask directions from a genie in a bottle of jim beam
And she lies to you
That's when you learn the truth
[Chorus]
If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
I've been deep down in that darkness
I've been down to my last match
Felt a hundred different demons breathin' fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled I'd fall right into the trap
That they were layin'
But the good news is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holdin' out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one's that you've been draggin' for so long
You're on your knees might as well be prayin'
Guess what I'm sayin'
[Chorus]
If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah if you're goin' through hell keep on movin'
Face that fire walk right through it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah if you're goin' through hell keep on movin'
Face that fire walk right through it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
This is a song I’ve loved since I was kid and I remember singing it when I was little. Little did I know, in the future, I would connect so deeply with this song. Everyone goes through something in their life and I’ve been going through that something that past year or so. When I first rediscovered the song it hit right in the heart. I related closely with the song and it became a great motivation for me to just keep gong. It also reminded me of better times when I was young. This song has always been a favorite of mine but now it means more to me than ever before. I’m even planning on my next tattoo to include these lyrics. It would serve as a reminder that even if I’m going through hell, just keep moving and I’ll make it out alive.

Section 13 - What I Like Best About Being a Member of Leadership
Being in Leadership has its ups and downs. Many, many ups and downs. However, the fun moments outweigh the stressful moments by far. During stressful times, all that’s needed is a little bit of laughter. This is exactly what happened during Homecoming. One of our most stressful events of the year, and yet the memory that stands out the clearest is sitting in April’s backyard, helping to finish the float decorations with Gracie, Bri, and Emily having the funnest time. We were laughing, messing around, cracking jokes and sometimes taking it too far. This was the most fun I had during Homecoming, simply laughing with friends while blowing up balloons and taping paper to a trailer. Continuing the idea of simple yet fun, the conversation I’ve had with small groups in Morty’s office will always hold a special place in my heart. It doesn’t matter who’s in Morty’s office we could be talking about the U.S. health system or whichever boy Bri has set her eyes upon this week. However, no matter the topic, the conversation always sparks the deepest belly laughs I can muster. Speaking of belly laughs, I’ve never laughed, cried, been angry, or yelled as much as I did at Core Camp this year. Yet, this still seems to be one of my favorite memories. Without the stress of the year pouring down on us just yet, everyone was stress-free, happy, and excited about the year. Everyone was getting along and the potential for the year ahead was amazing. I was so proud of everyone at that camp and I had never been more excited to start a school year!
Section 14 - A Reflection of a Peer in Leadership
I may be biased in this section but my positive story is for Ewan West. I started dating Ewan at the beginning of my Junior year, Ewan was not in Leadership this year. He saw the affects Leadership had on me and the stress it caused me that particular year. He knew his presence in this program would make the program a little better for me and willingly applied for Leadership our Senior year. Both of us being Seniors now, and both being in Leadership, I see now how selfless he was to join this program. He saw the stress and difficulties this class caused and still applied regardless. He has grown much over the course of this program and still has a lot to learn but I am grateful for him being in this program and grateful for all the positivity he has caused in my life.
Section 15 - RHS Pride Gallery
Section 16 - What I Love To Do
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is working out for a variety of reasons. For starters, working out in the morning genuinely makes my day significantly better. I’m a happier and more relaxed person if I go to the gym first thing in the morning. It makes me feel productive and I know I’m starting my day right. Working out is amazing for my health as well. I’ve played sports all my life so I’ve stayed in pretty decent shape and going to the gym helps with this as well. The gym also provides an escape from life for a second as well. It gives me the opportunity to put on my headphones, ignore the world, and work out. It also calms me down when life feels out of control. I may not be able to control certain aspects of my life but I can control how long I’m at the gym and what exercises I’m doing. Finally, the gym proves to be amazing at relieving stress and anger. If I’m having a truly bad day I know a hard workout will make me feel better and I will leave the gym with a huge weight off my shoulders. Working out has genuinely saved my life and been a huge aspect of my life for the past 2 years or so.

Section 17 - Letters to ParentsDear Mom and Dad,
Thank you for making me the person I am today. The good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between. You’ve taught me to be self-sufficient and pay my own bills, for better or for worse. You’ve taught me how to be strong and not cry even when it's the only thing I want to do. You’ve taught me how to stand up for myself and how I should expect boys to treat me. You’ve taught me how to be kind and understanding and in that same respect you’ve taught me how to fight and know the difference between right and wrong. I am a successful, hard working person and I owe that to you. These lessons weren’t always easy to learn. Some of these things you;ve taught me yourself, through arguments, long nights, and lots of crying. Other times you helped me through situations which made me grow. You gave me advice, you let me make mistakes and learn, you picked me up when I fell down. For as much as I would love to say my success is all due to my own handiwork, I know that would be a lie. I may have made decisions that helped lead to where I am today but you two have been such a huge impact on my life that I cannot take complete responsibility for who I am today. |
Section 18 - The Letter
Jenna, MS. ASB PRESIDENT!! I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and I can’t wait to hear about everything you are going to accomplish this year. Try your best to stay as organized as possible and use your breaks to get everything under control again. Life will get crazy and feel overwhelming but I don’t know a better person to lead this class. I’m beyond confident you will do an amazing job in this class. Remember, your class will challenge you, don’t let them walk over you and stand up for your ideas. In that same idea, don’t forget you’re leading the class so be sure to also try and work their ideas into the class. Patience will be huge with this class!! Try and make a connection with everyone before the year even starts, people are more willing to follow you if they know you genuinely care. Don’t let stupid drama and fights get in the way of creating a successful class and always try to push the class to succeed. Use Mortys website!! Take previous Procedure Forms and make them better. Take every event and think of some way you can improve it. Always strive for progress, not perfection because nothing will be perfect in this class. Morty will ask a lot of you, take it as a compliment. You are more than capable of doing this job and never doubt your abilities girl! If you ever have any questions, know you can always reach out to me!! Good luck and love you!
Section 19 - Do’s and Don’ts List
Do’s:
- Communicate more than you think you may need to
- Make connections with everyone in the class
- Take pictures of every single piece of paperwork you fill out
- Communicate with Morty when you won’t be in class
- Listen to both sides of the story if any conflict is to arise
- Keep a list of all current events and upcoming events and check in with the classes about said events
- Try your best with the Freshman to guide and lead them, it can be difficult but be sure to let them learn along the way
- Things will go wrong, just try your best to look at the positive side and find a solution, don’t complain about the problem
- Put your all into this program, when you feel like giving up remember you're doing this for the class
- Often share how much you appreciate the class or certain people in the class
- Make your class unique, do something you haven’t seen an ASB President do before
- Be understanding and realize people have lives outside of Leadership
- Always be on the students side, you’re here to lead your class and that means defending them no matter what
- GET THINGS DONE EARLY, the earlier it is the happier Morty is (this goes for absolutely everything from your journal to planning The Challenge)
- Let the class see you get too stressed, you being stressed will stress them out
- Yell at the class,if you need to get their attention yell at them respectfully, but no one likes getting yelled at
- Get angry at someone when something goes wrong, it can be very tempting but try to focus on solving the problem, not the person who created the problem
- Worry too much about negative feedback, obviously take it into account but people will be mean just to be mean, don’t let them get to you
- Judge anyone for the work they produce (learn from my mistakes), you’re here to support and uplift them. If someone doesn’t create quality work, talk to them about, don’t talk about it to other people
- PROCRASTINATE (I still do :( )
- Let this class harm your mental health, you're still #1 priority for yourself

Section 21 - The Professional
One important professional aspect I learned this year was the Elder Project. The Elder Project is a change for a Senior to reflect on their legacy and time spent in this program. This project also works on public speaking skills. This is very important to share your message and legacy and positivity influence those younger than you and around you. You share your story with a strong voice and confidence and it almost reminds me of a pitch to a business or boss. You’re pitching your message hoping those around you understand and pick up on the idea you're trying to share.
Another professional aspect we learned this year was The Challenge which is an event the class plans by themselves while Morty as at CADA conference. You must put together the entire event including paperwork, sketches, ideas, and budget. You then present this event to Morty in hopes of it getting approved. As ASB President, the first challenge you face while planning The Challenge is deciding how you’re going to lead this class to success. Then you have to motivate and push the class to get ridiculous amounts of work done in a week. Then you have to check in each day with the team leaders and assist anywhere possible. Following that you must put together a presentation that would impress not only Morty but also Mr. Hobbs. Then you must present The Challenge in a professional manner and cross your fingers Morty approves of said project. From then on it's just execution. This is extremely helpful in practicing pitching ideas and convincing your boss that you did your job well.

Section 22 - Change
Alright, this year has been a roller coaster. Extreme highs and extreme lows and a much of twists and turns of this year. We dealt with emergencies and a little bit of trauma. We started the year with 40 members and were down to 39. Countless meetings between events, attitudes, and everything in between. One area of frustration was when we went from 40 members to 39. This was due to an act of pure selfishness and anger. A lot happened to have caused this but it had been building up since July and finally exploded in March. I was frustrated because I felt I had failed as a leader. As ASB President, my goal was to make this class as happy and successful as possible. I failed this goal in that early morning meeting on March 10th. I was angry at myself and I was angry at the person. It was an all around bad situation. It took me a long time to remind myself that their decision was their decision and there was nothing I could’ve done to change that. Even now I don’t think I've fully convinced myself of this yet. I still at fault for this situation. A time of a lack of efficiency was during WinterFes/ Warm and Fuzzy week. For WinterFest I felt that class officers were trying their best but were overall burnt out and exhausted. These poor kids put their all into this program and something had to give, I believe it just happened to be WinterFest. However, it wasn’t all the time. They produced really good work but you could see them breaking down as it was happening. As for Warm and Fuzzy week, I had a really bad health scare that very few people know about and was unable to attend this event although I was working with the freshmen to put it together. I felt I had dropped the ball on this event which only furthered to destroy my health and put me in even worse condition. This was a hard week because there was nothing I could do about it and the more I thought about it the worse I felt. A positive change for next is closely looking at those we accept into the program and team dynamics. In order to have a successful class you have to start with a strong base. By closely looking at who we choose to let in and out of the program could change the dynamic of the whole class and determine the success of the program.
Section 23 - The Ideal Leader
An ideal leader is someone who is willing to see their faults and grow. A leader doesn't need to be the most courageous person in the room, or the most confident, most outspoken, most mature, most kind, or anything that is typically seen as a leader. As long as someone is willing to see where they are wrong and willing to work on being a better person, they are a leader because ultimately that’s what this world needs more of. More responsibility, compassion, and growth is what will change this world. No one is perfect, no one will ever be perfect but if you can take responsibility for your actions and work towards being a better person everyday then you have all the tools you will need to succeed. Everything else will come as you experience life. Life will change who you are and what you believe. However, there are 2 things I will always respect in a person as I’ve stated above. Especially in high school it is difficult to find someone who can admit to their faults AND be self aware enough to change them and constantly grow into a better version of themselves. As for in class work and events, you know what you're signing up for. We do not sugar coat a single aspect of this program and consistently remind applicants of the time and effort put into this program. If they choose not to listen and apply anyway that is their problem. Part of taking responsibility for your actions is being able to complete your work and prioritize what is important. Obviously all events need to be well planned and seen through to the best of your ability. As for homework, this needs to be attempted to the best of your ability but always prioritize events over homework, at least that’s what I do ;).
